Quin Houff and his LFR Development Group race team ventured south for back-to-back nights of Southern Super Series racing last weekend. First on the schedule was 125 laps at Five Flags Speedway in Pensacola, Florida on Friday, followed by 100 laps at Mobile International Speedway in Alabama on Saturday.
Throughout practice at Five Flags Quin and the team worked on testing multiple set-ups and adjustments, learning as much as possible not only for this race, but also for the Snowball Derby in December. Considered by many to be the most prestigious race in super late model racing, Quin’s schedule includes the legendary event this year.
Quin was involved in an incident early in the race that forced him to take the car to pit road for repairs. He then battled back to a 15th place finish. “A true whole team effort on trying to make the car better,” the Weyers Cave, Virginia native stated after the race. “Unfortunately, the way the race played out, we didn’t get the results we expected. I know we will come back better next time!”
Saturday’s race at Mobile was Quin’s first time at the southern Alabama half-mile oval, and the team worked quickly and successfully to get him comfortable in the only practice session drivers had prior to qualifying. After qualifying 5th, he redrew the pole position after the invert.
Quin battled the handling of the car throughout the race, collecting a respectable 9th place finish in his first time at the facility. “Everyone gave 100% this weekend, and we brought the car back in one piece. I learned a lot that I’ll be able to apply later this year. Now I’m ready to get back to the CARS Tour at TriCounty [NC] on June 11th.”
A participant in the 2016 Kulwicki Driver Development program, Quin is competing full-time in the CARS Super Late Model Tour and in a select schedule of additional races this year. He is currently ranked second in the CARS Tour SLM point standings. You can find his schedule, and additional information, here on his website.
